WORKSHOPS
CARPENTRY & DIY WORKSHOPS
Starting September 2022, we have taught over one thousand people in radically affordable and unique carpentry/DIY classes.
Our highly successful workshops gives learners confidence and competency on everyday hand and power tools, providing life-improving skills in household carpentry/DIY fundamentals.
We were granted lottery funding for three years to support the work of these sessions, meaning over 50% of our attendees have been low income and unemployed!
BUILDING BASICS carpentry workshop
With supportive guidance you will learn the entire process of designing and constructing a box with reclaimed and sustainable timber. The aim of the day is not to leave with a perfect faultless product, but to have built up your confidence, skill sets and knowledge at your own pace. You will be welcomed to an open and compassionate environment that will help you build that groundwork and feel more confident using tools at home!
DIY SHELVES & ELECTRIC DRILLS diy workshop
Do you want to gain independence and know how to put up shelves or fix/hang items at home yourself? Would you like to know how to use electric drills and drivers, and the components needed to use it around your home? With supportive guidance you will learn how to put up shelves and grow the confidence to do it yourself! This hands-on workshop will demystify the electric drill, teach you how to identify your wall type, break down the tools and components needed and give you a chance to practice putting up a mock shelf so you leave ready to do it at home.
GREENWOOD CARVING
SPOON AND SPATULA MAKING
Taught by Elbie (OwensOutdoors), come enjoy the therapeutic nature of traditional greenwood carving in our beautiful workshop space. Design and create your own spoon or spatula from locally sourced greenwood, always from wind-blown or damaged trees. Using three traditional hand tools (axe, straight knife, hook knife) hone your skills practising safe axe and knife grips. Come away with a usable, oiled spoon and the knowledge to make more! We’ve ran this course since 2023 and have developed a particular knack for making this day relaxed, therapeutic and creatively enriching!
HERITAGE CRAFT COURSES
INTRO TO JOINERY make your own totebox with dovetails
Taught by Rae Woods, we’ve developed a weekend workshop around how to make the ancient and revered 'dovetail' joint, and come away with your very own totebox! The dovetail is an extremely strong joint most commonly used in drawers, boxes, chests and furniture making. In this course you'll also learn about wood types and sustainable timber, how to use a range of traditional hand tools, putting these skills into action to make your own tool tote box!
ONE-OFFS & GUEST TUTOR WORKSHOPS
We champion women, non-binary and trans craftspeople to share their skill and talent with us. We have ran some amazing workshops over the last few years! To name a few, we’ve had chip and relief wood carving, traditional brush making, shrink pots, how to make plant based wood dyes, pallet-planter workshops, stamp making and habitat box making. Keep your eye out for any one-off and guest tutor course releases :)
